Mortar Finite Elements for Coupling Compressible and Nearly Incompressible Materials in Elasticity
We consider the coupling of compressible and nearly incompressible materials within the framework of mortar methods. Taking into account the locking effect, we use a suitable discretization for the nearly incompressible material and work with a standard conforming discretization elsewhere. The coupling of different discretization schemes in different subdomains are handled by flexible mortar te...
متن کاملStability Analysis of Wilson's Element for Incompressible Elasticity
In this work, the rectangular nonconforming Wilson element in solving incompress-ible elastic equation is analyzed. Although the element does not satisses the inf-sup condition (in a mixed formulation), it still can be used to compute the displacement successfully. If a simple post-processing is applied, the pressure converges, too. An optimal convergence rate is established for both displaceme...
متن کاملNearly Incompressible Linear Elasticity Using Simplicial Meshes
We present two finite element methods for simplicial meshes to approximate the solution of the problem of nearly incompressible elasticity. Although both approaches are based on mixed formulations of linear elastic equations and biorthogonal systems, one of them is nonsymmetric, and the other symmetric. An interesting feature of both approaches is that displacement-based formulations can be obt...
متن کاملAnalysis of Some Quadrilateral Nonconforming Elements for Incompressible Elasticity
In this work, some nonconforming elements on arbitrary quadrilateral meshes in solving incompressible elastic equations are analyzed. A uniform optimal convergence rate is established at the incompressible limit ν = 0.5 for both displacement and stresses (or pressure in the case of incompressible flow).
متن کاملComparative analysis of different variants of the Uzawa algorithm in problems of the theory of elasticity for incompressible materials
Different variants of the Uzawa algorithm are compared with one another. The comparison is performed for the case in which this algorithm is applied to large-scale systems of linear algebraic equations. These systems arise in the finite-element solution of the problems of elasticity theory for incompressible materials. A modification of the Uzawa algorithm is proposed. Computational experiments...
